heavy-metal-chelationWhat is Heavy Metal Burden?

Heavy metal burden is a term used to describe the accumulation of toxic heavy metals in the body due to prolonged exposure. Exposures are extremely common in our society with the most examples being mercury, lead and arsenic.

What symptoms can heavy metal burden cause?

How is it tested?

Heavy metal testing is done using a pre and post provocation urine test (using a heavy metal chelator) available at the Finlandia Health Centre. The test results display levels of accumulated toxic metals in the body as well as levels of microminerals essential to proper physiological function. The results usually take to weeks to receive after testing is complete.

What conditions can be improved by Heavy Metal Chelation?

Chelation of heavy metals is indicated in a variety of conditions. The most common conditions showing positive test results and response to treatment include:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Autoimmune Disease
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression
  • General Pain
  • Headaches
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Neuropathy

How are heavy metals treated?

The accumulation of toxic heavy metals are treated using intravenous or oral heavy metal chelators such as DMPS, DMSA and EDTA, proper nutritional support, a complete detoxification protocol and monitoring of detox organ function via laboratory testing.
