Relieving allergies through
Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization
Enzyme potentiated desensitization (EPD) is
an effective treatment for allergies, and was
developed by Dr. Len McEwen in the 1960s.
EPD uses significantly lower doses of antigens
than conventional allergy treatment, in
addition to beta-glucuronidase—an enzyme
that breaks down complex carbohydrates.
The treatment has its origins in the work of
Dr. S. Popper, a Czech otolaryngologist who in
1959 attempted to dissolve nasal polyps by
injecting them with the enzyme hyaluronidase.
The treatment failed to dissolve the polyps but
it stopped his patients with allergies sneezing.
