What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a diagnosis that sends a parent into a tailspin when they find out that their child may be struggling. There are numerous studies dedicated to investigating its cause and it is, today, one of the top ten most studied disorders.
Characterized by the inability to focus, hyperactivity and impulsivity, there are many different sides to ADHD and therefore no “one-size-fits-all” solution. You can easily unlock the door to managing ADHD with better nutrition, improved behavioral support and targeted education. ADHD is a multi-pronged syndrome that deserves a multifaceted approach.
Our ADHD practitioners have worked with children, youth and adults empowering their clients through education and informed choices and work closely with them to ensure the development of a treatment plan that can be easily followed to ensure success.
Despite the fact that the cause of this disorder is still vague, the symptoms that define ADHD are prevalent and prominent, so much so that approximately five to nine percent of children in North America alone have been diagnosed with an attention deficit disorder.
What is ADHD Coaching?
ADHD coaching is a specialized type of life coaching that uses specialized techniques geared toward working with the unique brain wiring of individuals with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Some of these include targeting areas of executive functioning issues such as organization or time management.
ADHD coaching works well either on its own or as a compliment to the treatment from a physician and counselor. Our ADHD practitioners will work in conjunction with your treatment team to make sure all of your symptoms are being managed effectively.
ADHD coaching is not psychotherapy. It identifies specific actions that will help achieve your life and social goals and it is not uncommon to work with a coach while you work with a therapist or counselor.
ADHD coaching is a close, ongoing partnership and it is not uncommon for clients to work with their coach for six months or longer. Coaches can either meet their clients in person, or by telephone approximately four to eight times each month, for 45 – 60 minutes per session. Coaching sessions cover what’s going on in the client’s life with emphases on challenges, opportunities, employing strategies for success and incorporating feedback to adjust the strategy if need be.
ADHD deserves a well-rounded approach. Our ADHD practitioner addresses all avenues of ADHD to ensure that every level of concern is met.
